Switch Packaging was created on an idea to replace standard polystyrene that offered limited protection for furniture through the logistics chain. We all know the courier system is not easy as they manage to break most things ever designed to be protected.
We were called by a major kitchen manufacturer who were using both plastic and polystyrene and tasked with replacing both materials in their packing process.
The MD of the company and his staff had a genuine passion for the environment and made it clear that they did not want their customers to have to dispose of the materials when the product arrived at a client’s home for fitment. Polystyrene was also difficult to store and had a high breakage level through their factory, waste was created before anything had even been packed.
We set about designing a pulp moulded corner (E.R.I.C) that would meet this required criterion. After vigorous trials, which included various drops from different locations within and out of the courier logistics chain, the product passed all tests and no damage has been reported since using this new design.
We used E.R.I.C to help a major UK kitchen manufacturer replace and eliminate the plastic and polystyrene packaging that they used to protect their products, with a 100% success rate! The environmental benefits don't get much better than that.
We feel the client had the foresight to be ahead of their competition which continues to this day. They had faith in us to deliver a solution and we hope the rest of the industry has the same coverage. We are currently working with other companies to achieve the same results by introducing our little friend E.R.I.C to help save costs, damage and harm to the environment.
