HPP is a leading supplier to the fitted furniture industry, specialising in processed sheet material, vinyl wrapped furniture doors and furniture fittings.
Prior to Switch, HPP was using polystyrene corners to protect their vinyl wrapped doors. With sustainability extremely important to HPP and their customers, they wanted to move to sustainable packaging materials to help reduce their carbon footprint and protect the environment.
Not only this, but HPP wasn’t satisfied with the level of protection their current packaging design and materials offered. Their polystyrene corners only provided a one drop solution. Meaning that if the doors were dropped once, the polystyrene would break and no longer protect for possible future accidents. Not only was this costing them money, but also disrupting their customers.
Passionate about working with companies to improve their packaging and move to environmentally friendly alternatives, we were excited to work with HPP and join their sustainability journey.
Due to the size and weight of the doors, as well as the scale of the project, we recommended moulded pulp to replace their polystyrene corners. Not only is pulp a completely renewable, biodegradable and sustainable material, but importantly it provides the highest level of protection and allows for completely bespoke designs due to the nature of its moulding process. It can be moulded around virtually anything!
Specifically for HPP, in order to create pulp corners which would meet the required protection levels for the weight of the doors, we undertook many tests and rigorous trials. As well as the pulp corners, we also recommended the additional protection of moulded pulp sides.
It was important to both HPP and us, that the pulp packaging would protect the doors even after multiple drops, outperforming the polystyrene. We even used HPP’s distribution centre in Sheffield to do practice runs to demonstrate how the packaging would perform in real-life transportation situations.
"Without a doubt we are pulp converts! The level of protection, as well as the sustainable brand message it generates for HPP, makes pulp the ideal packaging material for us. We have a great working relationship with Switch and unquestionably would recommend them to anyone who requires sustainable packaging. If an issue ever arises, Switch are excellent in their communication and ability to efficiently address it head on. You can really tell they are company who care for their clients.”

Since switching to pulp from polystyrene, HPP is extremely happy with how their packaging performs. Also as a company who value how their brand is perceived by its customers, they are much more comfortable using environmentally friendly materials and proud to do so.
We have now worked with HPP for over four years and are excited for our relationship to continue to grow. It has been a pleasure for us to partner with such a great company.
